A New Zealand man who has spent the past five weeks in Edmonton found a unique way to spend his time.Ò»¸öÐÂÎ÷À¼Ð¡»ï¶ùÔÚ¹ýÈ¥µÄÎåÖÜÀÔÚ¼ÓÄôóµÄ°£µÂÃɶÙÒÔÒ»ÖÖÌرðµÄ·½Ê½´ò·¢ÁËʱ¼ä¡£
Daniel Gray and his girlfriend Kathleen Starrie came to Edmonton from New Zealand to spend the holidays with Starrie's family. Never in a million years did Gray think he'd end up spending his time building an igloo.µ¤Äá¶û-¸ñÀ׺ÍÅ®ÓѿɪÁÕ-˹´ïÀö´ÓÐÂÎ÷À¼À´°£µÂÃɶÙÓë¿ÉªÁյļÒÈËÒ»Æð¶È¼Ù¡£µ¤Äá¶û¿Ï¶¨¾ø¶ÔûÓÐÏëµ½£¬ËûµÄʱ¼ä»á¶¼»¨À´½¨ÔìÒ»¸ö±ùÎÝ¡£
"My girlfriend's mother had a brilliant idea of building an igloo and thought it would keep me busy, away from her daughter in some respect," said Gray.¸ñÀ×Ц̸µÀ£º¡°ÎÒÅ®ÅóÓѵÄÂèÂèÓÐÒ»¸öÌرð´ÏÃ÷µÄÖ÷Ò⣬ËýÈÃÎÒ½¨Ò»¸ö±ùÎÝ£¬ÕâÑùÎҾͻáÌرð棬¾ÍûÓÐʱ¼äÒ»Ö±²ø×ſɪÁÕÁË¡£¡±
"I wanted to keep him occupied, not with my daughter necessarily. I wanted to keep him busy with something else," Starrie's mother Brigid Burton said with a laugh, "I didn't want (Dan) to just be twiddling his thumbs while he's here in Canada."¿ÉªÁÕµÄÂèÂè²¼Àö¼ªµÂ-²®¶Ù´óЦ×Å˵µÀ£º¡°ÎÒÏëÈÃËûÓÐÊÂ×ö£¬ÕâÑù¿Ï¶¨¾Íû¿ÕÒ»Ö±¸úÎÒÅ®¶ùÔÚÒ»Æð£¬ÎÒµÃÈÃËûæµã±ðµÄ¡£ÎÒ²»ÏëÈõ¤Äá¶ûÀ´Ò»Ì˼ÓÄôó¾ÍÏÐ×Åʲô¶¼²»×ö¡£¡±
"It's pretty typical. I wasn't really too shocked," Starrie said of her mother's request. "It wasn't presented as an optional thing," she added with a laugh.¿ÉªÁÕ˵×Ô¼º¶ÔÂèÂèµÄÒªÇóÒ»µã²»¸Ðµ½¾ªÑÈ£¬¡°Õâ¾ø¶ÔÊÇÎÒÂèÂè»á×ö³öÀ´µÄÊÂÇ飬¶øÇÒÕâ²»ÊÇÄã˵Ը²»Ô¸ÒâµÄʶù£¬±ØÐëµÃ×ö¡£¡±

Preparation on the igloo began months ago. Anticipating the couple's visit, Burton started collecting milk cartons in October, filling them with coloured water and freezing them to make ice blocks. "You need to collect hundreds of cartons, hundreds and hundreds of cartons," said Starrie.×ö±ùÎݵÄ×¼±¸»î¶¯Æäʵ¼¸¸öÔÂǰ¾Í¿ªÊ¼ÁË¡£²¼Àö¼ªµÂÒòΪ֪µÀÅ®¶ùºÍÄÐÅóÓÑ»áÀ´¿´ËûÃÇ£¬ËùÒÔÔçÔçÔÚʮԷݾͿªÊ¼ÊÕ¼¯Å£Ä̺У¬°ÑÓÐÑÕÉ«µÄË®¹àµ½Å£Ä̺ÐÖÐÈ¥£¬È»ºóÀ䶳ËüÃÇÖƳɱùש¡£¿ÉªÁÕ˵£º¡°Õâ¿ÉµÃÊÕ¼¯ºÃ¶àºÃ¶àµÄÅ£Ä̺У¬³¬¶àµÄ¡£¡±
And so the construction began. The couple, along with help from Starrie's parents and a neighbour, spent five days building the giant ice structure in the Burtons' backyard. Much of the work was done during Edmonton's cold snap, when the temperature hovered around the -25 degree mark.²Êºç±ùÎݵĽ¨Ô칤³Ì¾ÍÕâÑù¿ªÊ¼ÁË£¬µ¤Äá¶ûºÍ¿ÉªÁÕ£¬ÔÙ¼ÓÉϿɪÁյĸ¸Ä¸ºÍһλÁھӵİï棬Îå¸öÈË»¨ÁËÎåÌìµÄʱ¼äÔڿɪÁռҵĺóÔºÀィÔìÁËÕâ¸ö¾Þ´óµÄ±ùÎÝ¡£µ±Ê±µÄ°£µÂÃɶÙÆøεÍÖÁÁãÏÂ25¶È£¬´ó²¿·ÖµÄ¹¤×÷¶¼ÊÇÔÚÑϺ®µÄÌìÆøÏÂÍê³É¡£
"We kind of prepared well and went to the store and got some toe warmers and hand warmers and all of that and just dressed warmly. We'd only work for about two hours maximum at a time, and then go inside and warm up," explained Gray.µ¤Äá¶û½âÊ͵À£º¡°ÎÒÃǵÄ×¼±¸¹¤×÷×öµÄ»¹ÊÇͦ³ä·ÖµÄ£¬ÎÒÃÇÈ¥É̵êÂòÁËһЩů½ÅÆ÷ºÍůÊÖ±¦£¬´ó¼Ò¶¼´©µÃ·Ç³£ºñ·Ç³£Å¯ºÍ£¬ÎÒÃÇÿÌì×î¶àÖ»¹¤×÷Á½Ð¡Ê±£¬È»ºó¾Í½øÎÝȥůºÍһϡ£¡±
While it started as a bit of a tedious job, the engineer grew to enjoy the job. "Once I started building it, it was something I just really wanted to finish, because you can't just leave something like that unfinished," said Gray.Ò»¿ªÊ¼¿ÉÄÜÊÇÓÐЩ¿ÝÔïµÄ¹¤×÷£¬µ«×ö×Å×ö×ÅÕâλ¹¤³ÌʦҲ°®ÉÏÁËÕâ¸ö¹¤×÷¡£¡°¿ªÊ¼½¨±ùÎÝÒÔºó£¬ÎÒ¾ÍÌرðÏëºÃºÃÍê³ÉËü£¬ÒòΪÕâÑùµÄ¶«Î÷£¬ÄãÕæµÄ²»Ïë°ë;¶ø·Ï¡£¡±
In total, the group spent about 150 hours carefully putting about 500 ice blocks together, one by one, to build the colourful igloo.Õâ¸öÍŶÓÒ»¹²»¨ÁË150¸öСʱ£¬×ÐϸµØ½«500¿é±ùשһ¿é¿éµØ·Åµ½ÁËÒ»Æð£¬ÖÕÓÚ½¨³ÉÁËÕâ¸ö²Êºç±ùÎÝ¡£

"I thought we'd just take the bricks of ice and just kind of, almost throw them out there and make an igloo," Burton said with a hearty laugh."(It was) a lot more difficult, truly."×¼ÔÀĸ²¼Àö¼ªµÂҲ̹³ÏÕâ¸ö¹¤×÷±ÈËýÏëµÃÒªÄѵöࣺ¡°ÎÒ¿ªÊ¼ÒÔΪÎÒÃÇÖ»ÒªÄÃ×űùש£¬ÈÓµ½ÄÇÀï¾ÍÄÜÔìÒ»¸ö±ùÎÝ¡£¡± ²¼Àö¼ªµÂ´óЦ×Å˵µÀ¡£
But, it appears there's now a bit of a different tune to Burton's motives. "The reason that she's given since she decided it was such a big job was that she would allow me to marry her daughter, so I guess I've accomplished that," Gray said.²»¹ýµ¤Äá¶ûµÄÐÁ¿àûÓа׷ѣ¬²¼Àö¼ªµÂµÄ̬¶ÈÒ²·¢ÉúÁËת±ä¡£¡°µ±¿ÉªÁÕµÄÂèÂèÒâʶµ½ÕâÊǸö´ó¹¤³ÌµÄʱºò£¬Ëý¾Í¾ö¶¨Èç¹ûÎÒÍê³ÉÁË£¬¾ÍÈÃÎÒ¸ú¿ÉªÁÕ½á»é£¬Îҳɹ¦µÄ×öµ½ÁË¡£¡±
"(I said) to Dan, you know if you want my daughter's hand you have to complete this, and he did it!" Burton added.²¼Àö¼ªµÂ˵£º¡°ÎÒ¶Ôµ¤Äá¶û˵£¬ÄãÒªÊÇÏëÈ¢ÎÒÅ®¶ù£¬Äã¾ÍµÃ°ÑÕâ¸ö×öÍ꣬¶øËûÕæµÄ×öµ½ÁË£¡¡±
Although the couple has been together for nearly four years, it doesn't appear as though Gray and Starrie are in any rush to tie the knot.²»¹ýËäÈ»µ¤Äá¶ûºÍ¿ÉªÁÕÔÚÒ»ÆðÓв¶àËÄÄêÁË£¬ËûÃÇÒ²²¢Ã»Óм±×ÅÒª½á»é¡£
