【读书笔记】王尔德《自深深处》04
1891年，处在写作生涯巅峰期的王尔德遇见了阿尔弗雷德·“波西”·道格拉斯(Alfred "Bosie" Douglas)，两人很快成为了同性恋人。四年后，因为这段“不敢说出名字的爱”，王尔德被判“有伤风化”罪而入狱。在狱中，王尔德开始反思从前的生活，思索痛苦和人生的意义，艺术和爱的真谛，最终将那些痛苦的泪水都化作优美而深沉的文字，写成了这封名为"de profundis"(从深处)的长信。
作者简介：奥斯卡·王尔德(Oscar Wilde, 1854-1900)，英国维多利亚时代著名作家， “唯美主义运动”的领军人物，倡导“为艺术而艺术”(Art for art's sake)。他的代表作有 戏剧《莎乐美》(Salome)《认真的重要性》(The Importance of Being Earnest)，童话《快乐王子》(The Happy Prince) 《夜莺与玫瑰》(The Nightingale and the Rose)，小说《道连·格雷的画像》(The Picture of Dorian Gray)， 以及书信《自深深处》(De Profundis)等。

You did not realise that an artist, and especially such an artist as I am, one, that is to say, the quality of whose work depends on the intensification of personality, requires for the development of his art the companionship of ideas, and intellectual atmosphere, quiet, peace, and solitude. You admired my work when it was finished: you enjoyed the brilliant successes of my first nights, and the brilliant banquets that followed them: you were proud, and quite naturally so, of being the intimate friend of an artist so distinguished: but you could not understand the conditions requisite for the production of artistic work. I am not speaking in phrases of rhetorical exaggeration but in terms of absolute truth to actual fact when I remind you that during the whole time we were together I never wrote one single line.

【读书笔记】
1、所选段落的第一句句式相当复杂，难于理解，我们可以把它拆分成几个相对简单的句子来看：
I am such an artist, the quality of whose work depends on the intensification of personality.
For the development of his art, such an artist requires the companionship of ideas, and intellectual atmosphere, quiet, peace, and solitude.
And you did not realise the fact.
这样复杂的句子算是王尔德的特色，在以后的“读书笔记”中我们还会经常见到，可以用来挑战一下自己的语法功底哦~
2、first night 根据王尔德身为剧作家的背景，此处的first night应当指的是戏剧的首场/首晚演出，所以孙宜学先生的译法是有问题的。可见即便是翻译名家也有犯错误的时候，大家在学习的时候也要注意，不要过分迷信权威哟~
3、absolute truth to actual fact absolute truth和actual fact 意思基本相同，都表示“绝对真实的情况”“实事求是”，此处叠加使用，起到加强语气的作用。
