The Université de Toulouse is a consortium of French universities,grandes écoles and other institutions of higher education and research,[2] named after one of the earliest universities established in Europe in 1229,and including the successor universities to that earlier university.This article describes the institutions that have been called the "Université de Toulouse".

The formation of the University of Toulouse was imposed on Count Raymond VII as a part of the Treaty of Paris in 1229 ending the crusade against the Albigensians.As he was suspected of sympathizing with the heretics,Raymond VII had to finance the teaching of theology.Bishop Foulques de Toulouse was among the founders of the University.Among its first lecturers were:Jean de Garlande,Roland of Cremona.Other faculties (law,medicine) were added later.Initially,the University was located in the center of the city,together with the ancestors of student residences,the colleges.

In 1969,the University of Toulouse split into three separate universities and numerous specialised institutions of higher education.The present-day Université de Toulouse (University of Toulouse) was founded on 27 March 2007.[3] With more than 120,000 students,Toulouse is the second-largest university city in France[4] (after Paris).

Paris West University Nanterre La Défense (Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense) formerly called Paris X Nanterre is a French university in the Academy of Versailles.It is one of the 13 successor universities of the University of Paris.It is located in the western suburb of Nanterre,near La Défense,the business district of Paris.It is commonly referred to as Nanterre.

Nanterre was built in the 1960s on the outskirts of Paris as an extension of the Sorbonne.Based on the American model,it was created as a campus (as opposed to the old French universities which were smaller and integrated to the city they were in).

Nanterre became famous shortly after its opening by being at the center of the May 68 student rebellion.The campus was nicknamed "Nanterre,la folle" (Mad Nanterre) or "Nanterre la rouge" (Red Nanterre,in reference to communism).To this day,the university remains traditionally a center of the left wing,as opposed to universities such as Paris II-Assas,traditionally inclined to the right.

Nanterre is the second largest campus in France after Nantes,with its own Olympic-sized swimming pool and a stadium.It welcomes 35 to 40,000 students every year in all fields of studies:Social Sciences,Philosophy,Literature,History,Languages and Linguistics,Economics,Law and Political Sciences,as well as Teacher Training,Acting,Cinema,Physiology and Sports.

The university is renowned in the fields of Law and Economics.Even though French universities are required by law to admit anyone with a Baccalauréat,strain is put on the students from the start and the first year drop-out rate consistently hovers in the 60% region.At postgraduate level,the university offers very competitive programs (highly selective Masters in Law and Business) and partnerships with some grandes écoles such as the Ecole Polytechnique,ESSEC,Ecole des Mines de Paris,ESCP Europe ...

Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 (Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3) is a French public university,based in Lyon.It is under the supervision of the Academy of Lyon.A total of 22,500 students study there for a three-to-eight year degree.

University Lyon-III was established in the early 1970s (July 26,1973),a division of teachers following the events of May 68 that rocked the academic world.There are also departments of geography-planning,the engineer of the countryside in Annecy and history,and a faculty of philosophy with more than 90 doctoral students.

The university has steadily expanded its international relations and has relations with universities in various countries.

Because of the politically extreme right tendencies of some of its lecturers,the university has been accused in the 1980s and 1990s to be complacent with regard to theses deniers,anti-Semitic and racist.The Report on racism and Holocaust denial at the University Jean Moulin-Lyon III,prepared under the direction of Henry Rousso at the request of the Minister of Education and released in October 2004,showed that the number of teachers was limited.

The management of the University by its president for the 1997-2002 period is the subject of judicial and disciplinary procedures
